The Symbolic Frame
The symbolic frame is about giving people a sense of purpose and meaning in their work. Providing your organization with events, rituals or traditions, and processes is more important for what they express or signal than their intent or outcomes (Bolman & Deal, 2021). How you want people to view your company or organization matters to the employees because they want to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Companies like Southwest airlines talk about love and caring about each other when referring to the company, and this draws in people that are willing to work hard but at the same time enjoy what they are doing and whom they are doing it with. Creating some form of a symbol that your organization can stand behind will mean a lot to both those in your organization and your customers.

Reflection
I never realized how important it was to find some form of symbol to rally your workers behind. Even if you are a project manager with a small team, you can create something symbolic of what your team stands for. You can create a ritual that you do at regular intervals, or you can choose an ideal that everyone can get behind. I always thought of this as something that was only meant for companies or organizations; I never thought about putting something like this to use within a small group. This would be akin to setting up the Christmas tree, and everyone in the family participates in the tradition. I can see myself using this to create better cohesion within my group and make work more enjoyable.
